For a single woman, the monogram includes her first, middle and last initial. The last initial is larger than the first and middle and appears in the middle.

For a married woman, the monogram includes her first, maiden and married initial. The married initial is larger than the first and maiden and appears in the middle.

                    Jamie Catton Smith would be:  J S C

For an engaged or married couple, the monogram contains the bride's first initial, the surname of the couple larger in the middle, and the groom's first initial.

                    Jamie and William Smith would be:  J S W

For a man, many people prefer to use the first, middle and last name initials in that order with all initials the same size.

                     William Tyler Smith would be:  W T S

It is also correct to use a man's surname initial larger in the middle.

                      William Tyler Smith would be:  W S T
